Shred guitar or shred refers to lead electric guitar playing that relies heavily on fast passages; the act of playing fast passages on an electric guitar is termed ‘shredding’. While one critic argues that shred guitar is associated with "... sweep-picked arpeggios, diminished and harmonic minor scales, finger-tapping and ...whammy-bar abuse" , several guitar writers argue that rather than being a musical definition, it is a fairly subjective cultural term used by guitarists and enthusiasts of guitar music. It is usually used with reference to hard rock and heavy metal guitar playing, where it is associated with rapid tapping solos and special effects such as whammy bar ‘dive-bombs’. The term sometimes used with reference to playing outside this idiom, particularly country, jazz fusion, blues., and some modern variants of bluegrass.

Playing techniques
Dave Celentano's book Secrets of Shred Guitar argues that "...the secrets of shred", include "sweep, alternate and tremolo picking; string skipping; multi-finger tapping; legato, [and] trills." The instructional book Guitar Shred includes exercises on "...Speed Building, Legato, Tapping, [and] Sweep Picking." The GuitarPlayer.com reviewer of the book Shred! claims that the book covers the "...techniques shredders need to know—sweep picking, tapping, legato playing, whammy bar abuse, speed riffing, [and] thrash chording" Shred guitarists also use two- or three-octave scale or mode, played ascending and descending at a fast tempo. This run or lick can be played by individually picking all, or a selection, of the notes, using techniques such as alternate picking, or economy picking. Alternatively, the lick can be played by multiple-picking notes (tremolo picking), or picking just the first or second note of a string followed by a rapid succession of hammer-ons and/or pull-offs (legato).

Sweep picking is used to play extremely rapid arpeggios across the fretboard (sometimes on all strings). The tapping technique is used to play rapid flourishes of notes or to play arpeggios or scalar patterns using pure legato with no picking. Various techniques are used to perform passages with wide intervals, and to create a flowing legato sound. Some performers make complex combinations of tapping and sweep picking.

Racer X _ Live At The Whiskey (2001) - Scarified
Racer X is an American heavy metal band formed in 1985 in Los Angeles, California. The band's name is both a reference to the character from Speed Racer, and the speed that was an integral part of their music in the 1980s. The group was founded by guitarist Paul Gilbert—who later went on to achieve great success with the multi platinum-selling hard rock band Mr. Big—and bassist John Alderete.

The Rock am Ring (Rock at the Ring) and Rock im Park (Rock in the Park) festivals are two simultaneous rock music festivals held annually in Germany. While Rock am Ring takes place at the Nürburgring racetrack in the west of Germany, Rock im Park takes place in and around the Frankenstadion in Nürburgring, in the south east of Germany.
Both festivals are usually regarded as one event with a mostly identical lineup for both festivals. All artists perform one day at Nürburgring and another day at Nürburgring during the three day event. There have been minor exceptions in the past years where an artist will be announced for one of the festivals only.
Together Rock im Park and Rock am Ring are the largest music festivals in Germany and one of the largest in the world with a combined attendance of just over 150,000 people in 2007, selling out both events in advance for the first time.

String skipping _ Lead guitar lessons _ by Paul Gilbert

String skipping is a guitar-playing technique that is used mainly for solos and complex riffs in rock and heavy metal songs.
String skipping is a method of achieving a guitar sound that is different from more traditional solo riff styles. In more traditional styles, the guitarist will often play several notes on one string, then move to the adjacent one, noodling on the fretboard in a melodically linear manner. In string skipping (as the name implies), a string is often skipped during the riff. Essentially, this technique is used to introduce larger intervals than are usually common in guitar melodies, thereby creating melodic interest.
String skipping _ Lead guitar lessons _ by Paul Gilbert
Songs featuring string skipping
A famous example of string skipping is the intro riff to Sweet Child O'Mine by Guns N' Roses. Another specific example of string skipping can be heard in the song "Cliffs of Dover" by Eric Johnson, during the intro (measures 6 and 7). Johnson, who has built his guitar style "combining the music of many influences with his own ideas" has said that string skipping is an important part of his soloing. Johnson refers to executing "wider intervals" with the method, and also says with skipping, you're sometimes "replacing certain notes into another octave." He mentions it "gets a little more interesting" when the guitarist comes across a note normally fretted, that can be replaced with the open string version (played instead on a "skipped" string).
Guitarist Paul Gilbert (of Mr. Big, Racer X, and G3) often employs string skipping.

Jimi Hendrix: The Uncut Story - Episode 3
James Marshall Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix November 27, 1942, Seattle, Washington - September 18, 1970, London, England) was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. Hendrix is recognized as one of the greatest and most influential guitarists in rock music history. After initial success in England, he achieved worldwide fame following his 1967 performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Later, Hendrix headlined the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival before his death in 1970, at the age of 27.
A self-taught guitarist, Hendrix played a Fender Stratocaster guitar turned upside down (so that the right-handed guitar could be played left-handed) and restrung to suit him. Hendrix pioneered the technique of guitar feedback with overdriven amplifiers, incorporating into his music what was previously an undesirable sound. He built upon the innovations and influences of blues stylists such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Albert King, and T-Bone Walker, and derived style from rhythm and blues and soul guitarists Curtis Mayfield, Steve Cropper, and Cornell Dupree, as well as from traditional jazz. Part of Hendrix's flamboyant stage persona may have been inspired by rock pioneer Little Richard, with whom he toured as part of Richard's back-up band, "The Upsetters".
Hendrix strove to combine what he called "earth", a blues, jazz, or funk driven rhythm accompaniment, with "space", the high-pitched psychedelic sounds created by his guitar improvisations. As a record producer, Hendrix also broke new ground in using the recording studio as an extension of his musical ideas; he was one of the first to experiment with stereophonic and phasing effects during recording.
Hendrix was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. His star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (at 6627 Hollywood Blvd.) was dedicated in 1994. In 2006, his debut album, Are You Experienced, was inducted into the United States National Recording Preservation Board's National Recording Registry. Rolling Stone named Hendrix number 1 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time in 2003.
Death
Early on September 18, 1970, Jimi Hendrix died in London under circumstances which have never been fully explained. He had spent the later part of the evening before at a party and was picked up by girlfriend Monika Dannemann and driven to her flat at the Samarkand Hotel. According to the estimated time of death, he died shortly afterwards.
Dannemann claimed in her original testimony that Hendrix the evening before, unknown to her, had taken nine of her prescribed Vesperax sleeping pills. According to the doctor who initially attended to him, Hendrix had asphyxiated (literally drowned) in his own vomit, mainly red wine. For years, Dannemann publicly claimed that Hendrix was alive when placed in the back of the ambulance. However, her comments about that morning were often contradictory, varying from interview to interview. Police and ambulance statements reveal that there was no one but Hendrix in the flat, and not only was he dead when they arrived on the scene, but had been dead for some time.

Guitar Vibrato Technique _ Guitar video lessons

Finger vibrato is vibrato produced on a string instrument by cyclic hand movements. Despite the name, normally the entire hand moves, and sometimes the entire upper arm. It can also refer to vibrato on some woodwind instruments, achieved by lowering one or more fingers over one of the uncovered holes in a trill-like manner. This flattens the note periodically creating the vibrato.
In its pure form, vibrato is usually achieved by twisting the wrist rapidly to bend the note slightly, moving to and from the root note. However, the same techniques are applied at a slower speed to get pitch alterations.
In contemporary music, finger vibrato is also routinely used by classical guitarists on longer notes, to create an impression of a longer sustain. The technique is also used by jazz bassists to add depth of tone.

Bending Guitar Strings Technique | Free Guitar Lessons On Video

Bending Upwards
This technique is basically the opposite of the technique. This time the thumb is used as a pivot point and the wrist is rotated in the clockwise direction while pressing down on the fret to achieve an upwards bend.
If you find the bend difficult it is possible to use multiple fingers to bend the string. This technique is normally only used for upward bends as it is not so effective when bending downwards.
Bending Guitar Strings Jimi Hendrix Style
Bending Downwards
This is achieved by using the point your forefinger touches the side of the neck as a pivot . Using this point rotate your wrist in an anti-clockwise direction pulling the string downwards. This should be done while using your thumb to counteract the force generated by bending the note.
