A slide is a legato guitar technique where the player sounds one note, and then moves (slides) their finger up or down the fretboard to another fret. If done properly, the other note should also sound.
Alternatively, a player can accentuate a note by performing a small slide from an undetermined fret into the target fret. This can be performed from above or below the target fret, and it is called sliding into the note. A player can also play a note and, after letting it ring for a time, slide up or down the fretboard to end that note and move on. This can be done up or down the fretboard, but it is most often done down the fretboard (towards the headstock). This is called sliding out of the note.

A guitar player can also combine sliding both up and down while leaving or entering a note, although it is uncommon to slide into a note in such a way.
In guitar tablature, it is common for a slide to be represented by a forward slash: / for sliding up the neck and by: \ for sliding down the neck. It can also be represented by the letter s.
Slurred slides
Slurred slides are when you strike the string then slide up to the target note without re striking the string.
Shift slide
A shift slide is when you strike the target note instead of the note you start on.

Remind Les Paul - The great jazz guitarist and inventor

Remind Les Paul - The great jazz guitarist and inventor
Les Paul died on August 13th, 2009 due to complications from pneumonia; He was 94 years old.
Lester William Polfuss, known as Les Paul (June 9, 1915 August 13, 2009) was an American jazz guitarist and inventor. He was a pioneer in the development of the solid-body electric guitar which "made the sound of rock and roll possible." His many recording innovations include overdubbing, delay effects such as "sound on sound" and tape delay, phasing effects, and multitrack recording.

Guitarists
Les Paul, Stray Cats, B.B. King, Eddie Van Halen, Jan Hammer, Steve Miller, David Gilmour, Stanley Jordan.
His innovative talents extended into his playing style, including licks, trills, chording sequences, fretting techniques and timing, which set him apart from his contemporaries and inspired many of the guitarists of the present day. He recorded with his wife Mary Ford in the 1950s and they sold millions of records.
Among his many honors, Paul is one of a handful of artists with a permanent, stand-alone exhibit in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is prominently named by the music museum on its website as an "architect" and a "key inductee" along with Sam Phillips and Alan Freed
The original Gibson Les Paul guitar design regained popularity when Eric Clapton began playing the instrument a few years later (although he also played an SG and an ES-335). Paul resumed his relationship with Gibson, and endorsed the original Les Paul guitar from then on (though his personal Gibson Les Pauls were much modified by him — Paul always used his own self-wound pickups and customized switching on his guitars). To this day, various models of Gibson Les Paul guitars are used all over the world, by both novice and professional guitarists. A less expensive version of the Les Paul guitar is also manufactured for Gibson's lower-priced Epiphone brand.

Death
On August 13, 2009, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, New York. His family and friends were by his side. His attorney stated to the media that Paul had been "in and out of the hospital" because of illness.
Upon learning of his death, many artists and musicians paid tribute by expressing their sorrow in various news media. Among those who paid tribute were Saul Hudson (Slash), Trey Anastasio, Joe Satriani, Brian "Head" Welch, Tom Morello, Ace Frehley, Tad Kubler, John 5, Keith Richards, Randy Bachman, Brian May, B.B. King and The Edge. After learning of Paul's death, former Guns N' Roses and current Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash called him "vibrant and full of positive energy". U2 guitarist The Edge said, "His legacy as a musician and inventor will live on and his influence on rock and roll will never be forgotten."

Disasterpieces is a live DVD of Slipknot. The DVD was quite successful, due to the popularity of the band and the quality of performances, which used intricately placed cameras on the headstock of a guitar and a "first person" point of view of several band-members; plus the DVD-ability to pick your preferred camera-angle during the show. Rolling Stone reviewed the DVD with three stars out of four, stating the DVD, "takes advantage of the masked metal giants' sprawling live show".
Disasterpieces has shipped over 400,000 units in America alone according to the RIAA. It was subsequently released under Sony BMG rather than Roadrunner Records.

The recording, sound mix and the 1999 remix were completed by Eddie Kramer, who has pointed out that the conditions were primitive; in view of that, the result has been acclaimed, though the radical editing results in the group sound being reduced to a three piece of Hendrix, Cox and Mitchell. Lee, as noted above, and the two percussionists are essentially edited out of the mix. The original recording of the complete performance can be heard on several bootleg releases and the full group is clearly audible, notably on "Jam Back At The House" (aka "Beginnings"), where the volume of the two percussionists and Lee's guitar are noticeably a part of the whole.
